Case studies

Sometimes it's easier to understand what you are looking for if you see a few examples of how it has been done before. There's no way that I could post an example of every kind of commission that I've ever undertaken but here is a small selection of ideas.

Arts Festival coverage for Bournemouth Arts

Providing PR and archive images from a selection of events over a three week arts festival in Bournemouth. Live performance, arts installations and experimental works formed the bulk of the brief.

Cut-out portrait for Human Resources magazine

Giving the client in the USA a rapid turn-around set of images that could be used with a regular feature. The subject was a British academic who had already been interviewed and my job was to match the style of his portrait to a couple of samples supplied to me as PDFs.

Features shoot for The Guardian

The newspaper runs a regular supplement called "Best of British" where they feature a wide range of days out and short breaks in the UK. This feature was written by a reporter who went on this one day food foraging course led by Masterchef winner Mat Follas based from his award winning Wild Garlic restaurant deep in the heart of Dorset.

PR shoot for DEFRA/CEFAS

They commissioned me to cover the arrival of their survey ship, CEFAS Endeavour, through a specially raised Tower Bridge into the pool of London to show visitors the work that they do and to host a visit from an important Parliamentary committee. The job took a whole day and the images were uploaded to a password protected web gallery so that CEFAS could use them in their own magazine, on their own website and then supply images to other publications as necessary.

Magazine shoot for The Job

The Metropolitan Police has an in-house magazine called 'The Job' and I was asked to shoot two sets of pictures of Sir Paul Stephenson when he became the new Commissioner. One set was portraits in his office and the second was of his address to a meeting of rank and file officers at the Methodist Central Hall in London. Two very different sets of images but both well within the range of work that I do.

News feature for the Times Educational Supplement

Year after year the Finnish education system comes out at the top of every comparative table of European countries. Everyone has a pet theory about why this is and on this trip the reporter and I were tasked with interviewing people inside the Finnish schools system and with visiting a range of schools in and around Helsinki.
