Between January 2000 and June 2008 I posted a large number of technique examples taken from my daily work to show how I used light in an era where digital cameras were pretty poor at ISOs over 800 or even 400 in the case of the venerable Kodak DCS520. These days flash is a creative choice rather than a technical necessity but the techniques still stand up.

This website has been running since January 2000 and in that time I have willingly invested hundreds of hours of my time and a fair amount of my own money. It's been fun, and I've enjoyed most of the correspondence that I have received.

As I sit here to update this page it's early June 2008. In the year to December 2007 there were 677,000 visits to the site and a staggering 2,230,000 seperate page viewings. How many people that is and how much time they spent here will remain a mystery but I logged no fewer than 1,404 legitimate emails from visitors to the site during that year. I try really hard to answer them all personally but a few have slipped through the net. Some rather upsetting action by hackers means that I can no longer gather free web statistics via my ISP but from the LOG files I can see that the site seems to be popular - even without constantly adding new material.

My income from the site this year was considerably lower than last with 9 people making donations averaging at UK£14.00 each. This means that I have had to cover a number of the costs out of my own pocket for the first time since I started accepting donations.

It costs quite a bit to keep the site going so if you have enjoyed the site, or learned from it, please click on the "PayPal" button below and make a small donation.

I am open to offers from commercial sponsors, but there is little that I can offer them apart from alogo on the site. The truth is that I love this site and cannot bear to give even the slightest amount of control away!
